The Desire to Stay Enslaved

In the book of Numbers, chapter 14, we see that the Israelites wanted to go back to Egypt - back to slavery. Why in the world would anyone want to go back into slavery? Because freedom is hard.

In the last few years, I've seen how much people fear falling out of the will of the government, parents, kids, employers, and even their doctors. It's disheartening and hard to watch.

Humans want to be liked, we want others to feel comfortable, and some simply accept what we're told rather than doing more research, or praying for wisdom about something before making a final decision. The most shocking thing I've seen, and have personally experienced, is this false idea that our doctors, lawyers, teachers, and even our children have a right to make choices for us. Even if it goes against our morals, and core values.

Freedom bears great responsibility. When you're free to choose you could make the wrong choice, and oftentimes our choices affect others. This could be scary depending on the choice. So, many people would rather have some sort of authority figure make the decision for them. This way, if things go sideways they don't have to bare the burden of consequences. They can blame someone or something else.

I see this happening a lot now when it comes to the choice of taking the Covid jab. "I had to take it to keep my job." Nobody was forcing them to keep that job. "I had to take it to travel." Nobody was forcing them to travel. "I had to take it to stay in school." Nobody forced them to get or continue their education, let alone at that school. "I took it because my doctor said it was safe and effective." Nobody forced them to trust their doctor, and doctors aren't God.

I'm not judging - we all made a decision to get the jab or not, for various reasons, and that is between ourselves and God. My point is that folks who took the jab and now might be regretting that decision, are placing the blame on someone or something else, rather than taking responsibility for their freedom to choose to take it.

The definition of freedom is the absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action.

The definition of liberty is the power to do as one pleases; freedom from physical restraint; freedom from arbitrary or despotic control; the positive enjoyment of various social, political, or economic rights and privileges; the power of choice.

Another figure people, Christians especially, tend to blame is the true enemy - Satan. Although he does wreak havoc in our lives, he gets handed way too much credit for the wrong and difficult things that we go through. Oftentimes, we're living out natural consequences for our choices, and rather than exploring those choices, we tend to just blame satan or his minions and move on.

We have free will given to us by God. He wants us to choose Him. If He hadn't given us the freedom to love Him, and the freedom to not love Him, then it wouldn't be love. If God forced or coerced us to love Him, it wouldn't be true love, because true love is by choice.

Many people don't understand free will, but it's what the enemy uses against us every day. It's what he used against Job. I'll chat more about free will and Job in another post, but for now, if you'd like to glean more, ask for God's wisdom and then go read the entire book of Job.

Dear one, you are called to be free, but you'll only have freedom in Christ Jesus our Lord. If you want to know more about that, here's a link to a blog post about freedom in Christ. You could also watch this video I published on the same topic.

Accepting to live with freedom and liberty can be really scary, but we won't have true joy or peace in our lives if we choose slavery by blaming others. Choose freedom today, friend!
